What could be a better way to spend your days off from work than hiking in one of the most beautiful destinations in the UK? Having heard so much about these fantastic landscapes in the Peak District National Park, I decided to wipe off the dust from my hiking boots and spend a few days there. The first two points of interest were the Chatsworth House and the Haddon Hall, both taking one back to the 11th and 12th century. I discovered a new weakness – that of rustic stone walls offering support to colourful roses. After that it was time for our first walk, which took us up to the Curbar Edge. The views are truly breath taking! The next destination point was supposed to be the Stanage Edge, but due to heavy rain we had to skip it and leave for the next visit. We continued our journey towards the Ladybower Reservoir and after that it was time to head to the hotel and call it a day. The following day was designated for cycling. We collected our hire bikes from Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire and set off on the Monsal Trail. The Monsal trail is one of the most popular hikes there and it is not hard to guess the reason behind this. The route follows the path of the former Midland railway, where one will pass through several old train stations and enjoy all the tunnels and viaducts left behind which takes one back to a bygone era.
